Well, hopefully. I finally finished and handed in all my papers for the semester. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Tomorrow morning I have my last class and then I’m going to happy hour with my fellow exhausted, burnt out social work students.

Unfortunately, my cold has transformed itself into some kind of chest and throat hurting thing. Hmph.

So I’m going to tell you, today was actually kind of a crap day. I’m feeling under the weather and I’m cranky. And then I had to bring Milton to be put down. He was slowly going downhill and it was time. I pretty much cried the entire time and still get teary when I think of him, but it was the best thing I could do for him. Milton, you will be missed!

With strange timing, I also adopted a 3 week baby hamster from one of my classmates. Her hamster accidently got knocked up and had a litter of four. Let me tell ya, I’ve never had a baby hamster before and this little one is SO CUTE! I can’t even believe what a roly poly ball of fur she is. No name yet, but it needs to be gender neutral, unlike poor Cole, who is now Cole Porter, instead of Colette. I’m going to try to get some video of her running in her aquarium tonight. She’s going to be full grown fast so I need to enjoy her babyness now. Eeek!

But even with my new hammies, I still wish I had Milton…

On some fun notes, here’s some photos.

Cheery redness on our front door!

Me being Frenchie.

The lovely fork wreath at cafe Fork, old city.

My breakfast at Fork.

My new favorite scarf, tassel love! My mom’s from the eighties.

The super beautiful pastry that my supervisor brought me and the other intern as a surprise! It was delicious and walnut-ey.

Well, I’m off to go rest my throat, have a good night all.

I have so much to share! (But not my cold). December 13, 2009

Oh my gosh, I’ve just been piling up photos in my camera, waiting to post them. Things have been busy this week and I’m shocked that today marks the last week of classes for my first semester of grad school. I have 3 papers due and only one left to write, yay!

And yes, I haven’t been taking good care of myself and I got a cold. One often doesn’t have great health whilst living on PopTarts and attending the lovely social work party with the open bar on Friday night. But I’m pretty sure that with enough sleep, I’ll get over this cold pretty quickly.

So, I wanted to share a craft I made, that I’ve hesitatingly named Judy…

Judy on my wall.

Judy looking out the window.

Myra and Judy.

Judy was created from a bored and frustrated break hour from the night I worked on two papers. At first she scared me, but now I’m quite fond of her!

An aspect of an outfit form last week that I really liked, although the whole look was too frumpy. I often don’t look good in too many layers because I am definitely not skinny.

So for my break today (I woke up at 1 p.m., by the way. Working for 2 whole hours before I needed a break), I printed off and posted these awesome theory trading cards from a website one of my teachers recommended. Now I have all my nerdy school heroes up above my bed. One day I will take the time to laminate them all too!

Yay, Gilbert and George! If you want your own version, make sure you’re hooked up to a color printer and go to http://www.theorycards.org.uk/main.htm.

For fieldwork, I have to create a personality test based off the Meyers-Briggs and inspired by this awesome book:

It’s super cute with great little cartoons. They Meyers-Briggs is actually a really interesting system to help people understand their personality strengths and weaknesses so that they can better function in society and get along well with others. Want to know mine? It’s INFP. Basically I’m a super sensitive crybaby whose a little lost in my own thoughts. I have to say though, I am excellent with deadlines!

So I’m sooo excited to just sit back and enjoy the last week of classes. Here’s what I look like right now, between my cold and paper writing marathon…

But it’s really okay!

A couple of quick animal announcements: Pumpkin, the MSPCA cat I posted this past Tuesday has been adopted! And my own new furry creature, Colette, is settling in nicely and is even learning to navigate his new exercise ball. I’m pretty sure Colette is a boy hamster.

Alright, back to work for me now! Have a lovely Sunday…

Hehe. I put these glasses up on my Etsy shop (super hip people put their own lenses in, wear them and look adorable). This is my own attempt, hehe. I am going to be one cranky old lady, thats for sure. I was never sure if I wanted to be the sort of ‘cookie grammie’ who has infinite patience and grace or the ‘death glare gram’ who shrieks “what?! Speak up!” and hides from girl scouts who ring the doorbell. I already hide from girl scouts now so I’m hoping some kind of late life epiphany will take place and my infinite patience will settle in for good. I dunno.

Today I went to brunch with the nephews and then made this little plush this afternoon that I’m slightly frightened by. Right now he’s sitting on my desk giving me an odd look. Oh I forgot that I wanted to make him a little hat (He has a cone shaped head), so I will do that later and then photograph him.

This morning I looked at some Craig’s List roommate postings in Philadelphia. The rent is definitely cheaper there, which is exciting. But I can’t get too excited about anything right now because me brains all confused from daylight savings and I desperately need to get out of the house. So I’m just gonna take a walk and run an errand at CVS. Oh and the Milton update is that he has a new nest, it’s in his hamster tube. He brings his food in with him and then naps. It’s cute (everything he does is cute) but I will admit that I’m nervous he will get stuck in there. And that is the thought of the day.

Working late tomorrow. Oh bah.

Hey, I’m just wrapping up my vacation and I’m typing this on my mom’s computer so no photos available, even though I’ve taken lots by forcing my friends and family to be in them. Right now I’m hanging out at my parent’s house, wathivng “Walk the Line” and to be honest, it kind of annoys me that June Carter always has to take care of Johnny Cash. She seems like an interesting character but the movie pretty much focuses on him and his story is a bit boring to me. But they have cool behind the scenes facts, which I love! I also just finished a steak (mom’s treat!) and fed about half of it to my cat. And then, rice PUD-ding!

Today I got to see my good ole friends Abbie and Dorothy and I got so much done this week, lots of vintage and crafty goodies coming up! I also made a really short videos, one starring a hamster pair that is in love. I still haven’t quite figured out how I’m going to get this all up to MA, but I might have to leave the heavier things behind. Sometimes I think I get obsessed with making stuff. And I love having the free time to indulge that. Ahhh.

So apparently my hamster Milton made another break out but my devoted roommate Kim found him that night and he’s lucky that I didn’t find him first because I would have wanted to throttle him. He is just being a hyperactive hamster though.

Cool ending note: My mom gave me her wedding ring to wear, it doesn’t fit her anymore but I just love wearing it. I love the history that jewelry carries with it. Okay, see you when I get home!

No, I didn’t misspell “thing”, that’s how my 4 year old nephew says it. And it’s adorable. But onto something even more adorable, Money!

Just kidding! But I am so excited that I made my first sale on Etsy today! A lovely customer (who’s also a big hamster fan) purchased my Hamster Series of postcards. Yay!  Sometimes I feel so shy putting my art out there in the great abyss of the internet so that just made my day.

In other news, I’ve been working my tushy off. Work is busy, home is busy. But I’m totally bummed about this weather cuz Kat and I can’t go for our walk. I need exercise! I need to run and be free among violets and baby lambs! It’ll just have to wait, sigh.

So I just finished a new series about super heros in their pajamas. And I think I’m going to start putting up my awesome thrifting finds, mostly from the godsend of Goodwill’s, the Davis Square location. That’s where I found my Coach leather beaut! And I have my own camera now so I don’t have to use panicked photos with someone else’s camera.

Well, I might be back to post a picture of this beautiful red purse that is my most recent goodwill find. But maybe not! If not, have a lovely night…

Might as well get this out of the way now! January 24, 2009

I just woke up from an accidental Friday night nap and ended up taking photos of the mookers. The only one not pictured is my tiny betta fish cuz she just looks like a blue blob.

Up first is Milton. He has those extra big ears and they make him look like the kid from “Mad Magazine” but in a really endearing way.

Here’s Lulu, who looks freakishly like Milton. She is only awake for about 4 hours a day and mostly grooms herself and eats when she’s awake. I don’t think she would survive in the wild, although she makes a fantastic pet hamster! Both of my hamsters were rescues, Milton from the MSPCA and Lulu from a nice man on Craig’s List who removed her from a neglectful home. It took a bit to tame her but she’s a total sweetie.

And here’s Mr. Euey in his almost brand new 75 gallon tank! He is so happy in his mini pond. He’s been with me for 6 years!

And the last inhabitant of my room would be me. Here I’m drawing which I hope to get more of done tomorrow, as well as go to my $5 yoga class (Om City Yoga!), make food for Sabie’s party and then actually go to Sabie’s party.

Not to end on a depressing note, but I can’t get all the budget cuts and job losses out of my mind lately. I’m trying to think a couple cheerier thoughts before I go to sleep tonight.

I saved $15!! January 12, 2009

milton1Well, kinda. I’d been planning to have my Etsy shop banner/avatar personalized by a designer but after fooling around with Photoshop for awhile (for some reason I can’t resize canvases in Illustrator), I was able to create my own banner! I’m not overly thrilled with it but I’m pretty psyched that I DIY-ed it and will keep working on it. The reason I might not have saved $15 is because I still might pay for one in the future. But for now I can buy myself 3 burritos, assuming each costs exactly $5.

So here’s a nice end to a crafty story…Awhile ago I sewed my 2 nephews (or the monkeys, as I call them) superhero stuffies of themselves. And I’ve been waiting FOREVER to give them their presents and I got to tonight when we went to dinner at Wagama. The monkeys literally went ape-sh*t (yeah!) and were running around with their stuffies. It made me feel fabulous and I loved that they loved them.

This was a very art filled weekend for me, lots of pins and postcards were created. I just wish we’d stop having these snowstorms so that I could take a couple walks without crash landing like I did in front of Wagama.

I really want to post a photo but I have nothing relevant. Instead, feast your eyes on my hamster Milton!

P.S. I figured out something amazing. I never have quarters for laundry and I realized you can get ALL QUARTERS at the change machine at a laundromat. Probably everyone else already knows this…
