Me and my silly crafts!

I have so much to share! (But not my cold). December 13, 2009

Oh my gosh, I’ve just been piling up photos in my camera, waiting to post them. Things have been busy this week and I’m shocked that today marks the last week of classes for my first semester of grad school. I have 3 papers due and only one left to write, yay!

And yes, I haven’t been taking good care of myself and I got a cold. One often doesn’t have great health whilst living on PopTarts and attending the lovely social work party with the open bar on Friday night. But I’m pretty sure that with enough sleep, I’ll get over this cold pretty quickly.

So, I wanted to share a craft I made, that I’ve hesitatingly named Judy…

Judy on my wall.

Judy looking out the window.

Myra and Judy.

Judy was created from a bored and frustrated break hour from the night I worked on two papers. At first she scared me, but now I’m quite fond of her!

An aspect of an outfit form last week that I really liked, although the whole look was too frumpy. I often don’t look good in too many layers because I am definitely not skinny.

So for my break today (I woke up at 1 p.m., by the way. Working for 2 whole hours before I needed a break), I printed off and posted these awesome theory trading cards from a website one of my teachers recommended. Now I have all my nerdy school heroes up above my bed. One day I will take the time to laminate them all too!

Yay, Gilbert and George! If you want your own version, make sure you’re hooked up to a color printer and go to http://www.theorycards.org.uk/main.htm.

For fieldwork, I have to create a personality test based off the Meyers-Briggs and inspired by this awesome book:

It’s super cute with great little cartoons. They Meyers-Briggs is actually a really interesting system to help people understand their personality strengths and weaknesses so that they can better function in society and get along well with others. Want to know mine? It’s INFP. Basically I’m a super sensitive crybaby whose a little lost in my own thoughts. I have to say though, I am excellent with deadlines!

So I’m sooo excited to just sit back and enjoy the last week of classes. Here’s what I look like right now, between my cold and paper writing marathon…

But it’s really okay!

A couple of quick animal announcements: Pumpkin, the MSPCA cat I posted this past Tuesday has been adopted! And my own new furry creature, Colette, is settling in nicely and is even learning to navigate his new exercise ball. I’m pretty sure Colette is a boy hamster.

Alright, back to work for me now! Have a lovely Sunday…

Photos and Paris thoughts. December 8, 2009

Today was one of those days…in a good way. I did work all morning and then because we can’t get our heat to work (oh, dear lord), I went to Green Line cafe to study and start my second paper. When I was walking there, snowflakes were falling and I kept thinking, “Big Hot ChocoLate! Big Hot ChocoLate!”. I ended up getting a vegan oreo cupcake and the most giant hot chocolate I’ve seen in awhile. Then I volunteered at the student clinic, which is held in the basement of this neat old church. Now I’m home with tea and no inclination to change into pajamas or brush my teeth because both of those activities mean either being momentarily naked or the possibility of touching cold water. I don’t even really want to pee because the seat will be cold. So I’m huddled in my room with my space heater and my mug, praying that we can get the heat going tomorrow.

Hey! Here’s the mobile I made the other day…

And I never shared my delicious dinner and dessert erasers I got to commemorate starting school. They always make me want pie.

It seems I’ve become something of a francophile of late. There’s just something about the French, their food, their lifestyles, their language. I’ve been reading two books about French society, one is called, “How to Talk to the Snail” and it’s pretty delightful. And kind of hysterical. Last night I had a dream that was back in Paris (inspired by two events: One, I went to see a movie at the Roxy theater and Sansom Street looks so old world and Europeon. Two, I fell asleep watching Paris, Je T’aime on instant Netflix. It’s made up of 18, 5 minute shorts about love in Paris).

That snail is the snootiest snail I’ve ran into for quite some time now.

Well, now I’m off to finish the last of Paris, Je T’aime! Of course I fell asleep during it. Twice.

Hey, I’m just wrapping up my vacation and I’m typing this on my mom’s computer so no photos available, even though I’ve taken lots by forcing my friends and family to be in them. Right now I’m hanging out at my parent’s house, wathivng “Walk the Line” and to be honest, it kind of annoys me that June Carter always has to take care of Johnny Cash. She seems like an interesting character but the movie pretty much focuses on him and his story is a bit boring to me. But they have cool behind the scenes facts, which I love! I also just finished a steak (mom’s treat!) and fed about half of it to my cat. And then, rice PUD-ding!

Today I got to see my good ole friends Abbie and Dorothy and I got so much done this week, lots of vintage and crafty goodies coming up! I also made a really short videos, one starring a hamster pair that is in love. I still haven’t quite figured out how I’m going to get this all up to MA, but I might have to leave the heavier things behind. Sometimes I think I get obsessed with making stuff. And I love having the free time to indulge that. Ahhh.

So apparently my hamster Milton made another break out but my devoted roommate Kim found him that night and he’s lucky that I didn’t find him first because I would have wanted to throttle him. He is just being a hyperactive hamster though.

Cool ending note: My mom gave me her wedding ring to wear, it doesn’t fit her anymore but I just love wearing it. I love the history that jewelry carries with it. Okay, see you when I get home!

No, I didn’t misspell “thing”, that’s how my 4 year old nephew says it. And it’s adorable. But onto something even more adorable, Money!

Just kidding! But I am so excited that I made my first sale on Etsy today! A lovely customer (who’s also a big hamster fan) purchased my Hamster Series of postcards. Yay!  Sometimes I feel so shy putting my art out there in the great abyss of the internet so that just made my day.

In other news, I’ve been working my tushy off. Work is busy, home is busy. But I’m totally bummed about this weather cuz Kat and I can’t go for our walk. I need exercise! I need to run and be free among violets and baby lambs! It’ll just have to wait, sigh.

So I just finished a new series about super heros in their pajamas. And I think I’m going to start putting up my awesome thrifting finds, mostly from the godsend of Goodwill’s, the Davis Square location. That’s where I found my Coach leather beaut! And I have my own camera now so I don’t have to use panicked photos with someone else’s camera.

Well, I might be back to post a picture of this beautiful red purse that is my most recent goodwill find. But maybe not! If not, have a lovely night…

Might as well get this out of the way now! January 24, 2009

I just woke up from an accidental Friday night nap and ended up taking photos of the mookers. The only one not pictured is my tiny betta fish cuz she just looks like a blue blob.

Up first is Milton. He has those extra big ears and they make him look like the kid from “Mad Magazine” but in a really endearing way.

Here’s Lulu, who looks freakishly like Milton. She is only awake for about 4 hours a day and mostly grooms herself and eats when she’s awake. I don’t think she would survive in the wild, although she makes a fantastic pet hamster! Both of my hamsters were rescues, Milton from the MSPCA and Lulu from a nice man on Craig’s List who removed her from a neglectful home. It took a bit to tame her but she’s a total sweetie.

And here’s Mr. Euey in his almost brand new 75 gallon tank! He is so happy in his mini pond. He’s been with me for 6 years!

And the last inhabitant of my room would be me. Here I’m drawing which I hope to get more of done tomorrow, as well as go to my $5 yoga class (Om City Yoga!), make food for Sabie’s party and then actually go to Sabie’s party.

Not to end on a depressing note, but I can’t get all the budget cuts and job losses out of my mind lately. I’m trying to think a couple cheerier thoughts before I go to sleep tonight.

Sushi attack! January 20, 2009

sushi1About an hour ago, Kat and I got back from Snappy Sushi, a lovely sushi restaurant in Davis Square. Not only was our sushi delish and made with the healthy alternative of brown rice, it was also served by a super cute red headed waiter! Ah, the bright minds behind Snappy Sushi must know that red headed men serving me sushi sounds very close to heaven.

I just wanted to take a moment and brag about how much craftsy stuff I did this weekend! My first set of postcard series are complete. My personal favorite is the disgruntled Christmas elf set. I hope to have that posted on Etsy as soon as possible! My new project was also started, which is Two Toe Design art pillows! Woop woop. We’ll see how that goes. I also have almost finished the social work zine and drew A LOT, including one cross dressing bride.

Before Kat and I left for Snappy Sushi, we were hanging out and playing with the hamsters. Well, we must have tired little Miss Lulu out because she napped in her exercise ball! Awww…

Right now I seem to be having some sort of asthma attack, which following my sushi attack is making this a very eventful evening. Don’t worry Ma, I think I’m just getting a little cold. *cough*

Good night!

I kind of dreaded setting up this blog because my computer skills function at an old person level, but it actually turned out to be pretty easy.

So my goal in this blog is to try to talk about my art and design projects and other random stuff. A little while ago I started my Etsy shop and I actually have items on there now, although I’m definitely going to need improved photographs. My new camera is just waitin’ for me at my parent’s house and then I can experiment with all kinds of photos!

In the meantime, I’m just thinking about bed and pajamas (and my new super top secret art project) on this Sunday night. It was a busy and lovely weekend. To sum it up, I ate THREE meals of Chinese food this weekend. whoa. I promise next post to put my Etsy link and talk more about it…
