Recently I picked up a copy of “Duddits, The Comic”. I’ve been a Liz Prince reader for awhile now and have a couple of her other books. I also check out Maris Wick’s Livejournal somewhat regularly. Duddits is a short, self printed comic starring these ladies and of course, Duddits. He’s the toothy pillow guy that Liz is always lounging on.
Even though I think both these cartoonists are awesome and entertaining, I wasn’t expecting much from Duddits. (Bought it to read on the bus). And I think that’s why my first read through, I had no idea what was going on. Then I put my expectations aside and went into the twisted world that makes this comic spectacular. In fact, the only downside to Duddits is that it actually ends. In the back are some extremely entertaining factorial tidbits about the biology and culture of Duddits that is illustrated by featured cartoonist Joe Quiones. Super funny, super clever.
I’d hate to give too much away seeing as this is a short read, but the basic concept is that Duddits is this extremely unwelcome, slightly creepy creature that folks aren’t too keen on. And there’s sweet revenge included. Actually, you know what, just go read it, damnit!
