Me and my silly crafts!

Some Pictorial Representations… June 22, 2009

Well, I got very excited today because I went to the bead store and that carries a lot of emotions with it for me. I got lots of good stuff, some that will be going into the store, some that will be going into a custom piece of jewelry and some that will be going into my submission for The Sampler. And I haven’t eaten anything but mini donuts and apple jacks for the last day so I’m very excitable right now.

Anywho, check out some photos. Here’s a bunch of the beautiful, old bound classics that I got at the flea market.

It was $1 for 1 bag of books!

And here’s the vintage pins I scored for $1.50.

I especially like the bike and the black satin bow.

And finally, TWO TOE SNEAK PEAK!

Some new jewelry will be going up tonight around 10 p.m. Here’s a hint of what’s to come…

Just a bit of titilation for your soul.

The Devil Inside Me June 18, 2009

The devil inside me has a side ponytail and blue Nike high tops. She loves all things sugary, spicy, trendy and scandalous. But fortunately, I think she’s pretty small. For now.

So I think I’m going to be making more paper dolls for sale. Let me know if there are any ones in particular I should make.

A very personal thing… June 17, 2009

My newest item on Etsy is pretty close to my heart. It’s a listing for a custom pet portrait but as examples, I’ve included 3 portraits of my very own loves that I wanted to share here.

First is my “nephew” cat, Mr. Tobey.

IMG_2817

Next is Mr. Euey, who is my longest running roommate. The dude’s going to live to like 100, so I have a feeling we’re going to be together for awhile now. He really does spend the day trying to pick up chicks but what he doesn’t realize is that he’s looking at a mirror.

IMG_2818

And then, of course, there’s Milton. This truly describes his personality…

Right now, I actually spend more time with these 3 guys than anyone else. It’s nice to have a way to toast their wonderfulness, even if they can’t appreciate art.

More tomorrow!

Ahh, well Monday. June 1, 2009

It is so strange to be making my own schedule now. I’m pretty much working everyday, even on weekends but I take breaks to go bike riding and hanging out with friends. My night owl tendencies are also starting to rear their tired head and I’ve been staying up semi-late working, while the mornings tend to be lazy. But it sucks because I LIKED being an old lady who went to bed early and woke up early. I always feel like I have a sleep hangover when I stay up late. But I go back to sleep after my alarm goes off, instead of springing up and getting to work. I’ll see how it goes, but obviously I’ll never be a drill sergeant. Sad.

Well, I have some new ‘toons that I’ll be posting later on and I’m also planning a bit of a surprise that’s going to be a new part of the blog, which is good fun. This week, I’ll be adding my newest creations to Etsy. They are original inked cartoons by me, in hand painted frames. The Girl is Cat Costume is already up (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25811284) and here’s a sneak peak of what’s coming this week…

IMG_2257

These are extremely amusing for me to create.

The reason I woke up this morning is because I got a phone call from the Center for Cartoon Studies.  They said they could not attend the summer class I signed up for because it’s only for people over 18 (I’m 26, ha). Apparently I had written my birthday down as March 19, 1993. I’m such a friggin space cadet sometimes! I told them about the time I was at the dentist and put my birthday down as March 19, 2009. The receptionist was like, “Uh, ma’am?”. Numbers are not my strong point. I’m constantly mixing them up. As a child, I gave them little personalities and that was how I kept them straight but that got too complicated as soon as my school got into negative numbers and decimals. So now it’s just a big, numbery mess in my brain.

Okay, expect some ‘toons later on today!

I’m in a beautiful treasury!! May 30, 2009

Please take a look! It’s theme is yellow and magenta… Mine is the yellow envelope purse.

Also, the Etsian who put the treasury together is super cool and creative. Check out her shop, Bloomsbury Group! I have two favorite items competing for first place in my heart, Simply A Dala Plush Horse ornament and Bloomsbury Snoodibbler plush. Maybe Snoodibbler wins just for the fantastic name! I feel that funky homemade toys like this are so important to level out the amount of plastic junk a lot of us have around. It’s good for our eyes to take in this kind of color and handiwork because I think it inspires us to be a bit more creative and relaxed. Or at least it does for me. I will stop drooling now.

Today is fancy day! May 27, 2009

I don’t know why, it just is. I bought this awesome new dress yesterday at Goodwill:

And check out the dainties plate:

IMG_2201

Super fancy!

When I’m home (as I’m a full time artist now, eek!), I find that I eat a lot of bread, which is fine but I’m trying to cut down some. So I switched to these crackers that I love, but am now eating waaay too many of them. I love them with honey or hummus. So now I need to cut down on them. But they are delicious if you are so inclined.

Here’s what I’m working on presently. Just a sneak peak.

I’m totally depressed by the rain because now I’m all into riding my bike around. Now I despise walking! Pedestrians better not get too close to me! Not really. Anywho, I better get back to my little projects!

Bad poster! April 25, 2009

Filed under: Crafting and Craftiness,Shop Updates,Super Fun Life — Suzy @ 1:26 pm

I sorta did a few retreats from the world this week. Work has been very busy as I’m wrapping up everything and by the time I get home, I’m ready to zonk out. Last night I hid from everyone and watched “Peggy Sue got Married” in bed with Twizzlers. But I have had a bit of crafting success, though I haven’t posted anything new in the shop. I finally photographed my comic strip purse.

Ta Da.

Hopefully this weekend I can paint the little underwear dolls I’ve been stuffing on the T and maybe some more muslin pins. I only did one comic this week, which I like but haven’t erased and photographed yet. But I did finally take photos of my “dainties plate”.

img_1850

It makes me happy to see it on the kitchen table.

And OH! I finally figured out how to file share and check out the Mother’s Day card I put up for everyone that says, “Happy Mama’s Day, thanks for growing me near your uterus”. My mom is going to get the original hand drawn card, of course. Please feel free to print it out and use it for your mama. I also have the image that I plan to make into stickers soon for the upcoming Design Hive but am still working on that. Having my usual technical difficulties. But hey, my skills have come a long way! I just improve them slowly. Very slowly.

This morning I’m shipping out an order to Ms. Dorothy, whose etsy purchase made me laugh. Thank you! It’s also the first weekend of Cambridge Open Studios and I was going to try to convince my friends Matt and Jen to accompany me.

In other news, I’ve been keeping up with my cooking and fresh food buying. Yesterday I made a spinach and tomato soup but I ate it all before I thought of a photo. Here’s my favorite dish though…

img_1868

Add a little salt, some pepper, turn up the heat and you’ve got a simple cooked cat delight. I always like to joke that my turtle’s heater isn’t so much to keep him warm, it’s because I’m planning to turn it up really high and add vegetables. Kidding, of course. Oh, random Milton cuteness,

img_1857

And hmmm. I think that’s everything I have to report right now. Further updates to come this weekend!

My total scores from Haymarket this morning. Kat and I went for a walk and cruised the North End, got muffin tops, saw fancy shops, scurried through Haymarket and made it safely back to Davis. A great morning.

So I slept like a freakin’ rock last night after painting for awhile. I’ve been working on re-doing some of the vintage stuff I have and I FINALLY finished, photographed and posted the stuff up today. I didn’t get everything but I got far enough along that I’m pleased with my efforts. It’s hard because there’s always more I want to do. And this stuff takes a lot of time so even though I love it (well, I hate taking photos), it still sucks up most of my day. Tonight I’ll be doing more related stuff, hopefully including a surprise for the ole’ blog and some little sewing projects I’ve been mulling over.

Also on the list is finishing my photo entries for the “I am not your toy” contest and I want to apply for the BeeHive craft fair in June. Tomorrow I am being super auntie and taking Raffi to the Boston Comic Con and I’m pretty excited. We’re going out for a treat afterwards, as long as neither of us throws a temper tantrum. We’ll be skipping our nap, you see. I can’t wait to spend some time with the little munchkin.

So my apologies for the post below, I know it’s really hard to read the cartoon print and I’ve been meaning to split it into 3 separate but larger photos but it’s sort of at the bottom of the list. Well, it got moved to the top of the list apparently. A vague notion of mine right now is to compile my comics into a teeny book. Very little work has actually been done on it so I think the set publishing date is around May of 3102. There’s something to look forward to.

In other news, I watched the documentary King Corn and got completely frightened, which of course led to me eating a massive amount of donuts/high fructose corn syrup this week. But hey, two Boston guys made that so that’s pretty neat. I’m also still in disbelief over how cute my hamster Milton is. I also ordered the latest LarryBear comic (www.larrybear.etsy.com). It’s called “Yeah it is” and the whole thing was created from construction paper cutouts. Whoa. Larrybear also draws the “Eye of the Majestic Creature” comics that my roommate and I are obsessed with. I can’t wait for “Yeah it is” to arrive so I can tear through it repeatedly. And that’s all my breaking news.

Teeny Shop Update:

Hehe. I put these glasses up on my Etsy shop (super hip people put their own lenses in, wear them and look adorable). This is my own attempt, hehe. I am going to be one cranky old lady, thats for sure. I was never sure if I wanted to be the sort of ‘cookie grammie’ who has infinite patience and grace or the ‘death glare gram’ who shrieks “what?! Speak up!” and hides from girl scouts who ring the doorbell. I already hide from girl scouts now so I’m hoping some kind of late life epiphany will take place and my infinite patience will settle in for good. I dunno.

Today I went to brunch with the nephews and then made this little plush this afternoon that I’m slightly frightened by. Right now he’s sitting on my desk giving me an odd look. Oh I forgot that I wanted to make him a little hat (He has a cone shaped head), so I will do that later and then photograph him.

This morning I looked at some Craig’s List roommate postings in Philadelphia. The rent is definitely cheaper there, which is exciting. But I can’t get too excited about anything right now because me brains all confused from daylight savings and I desperately need to get out of the house. So I’m just gonna take a walk and run an errand at CVS. Oh and the Milton update is that he has a new nest, it’s in his hamster tube. He brings his food in with him and then naps. It’s cute (everything he does is cute) but I will admit that I’m nervous he will get stuck in there. And that is the thought of the day.

Working late tomorrow. Oh bah.
